Dear Younger Self,
Hi... It's you from the future. Weird huh? So, for national women's day there's a campaign all about what advice you would give to your younger self, and in the video I made for you, I only really touched on a few things, because to be honest, I was worried that if I talked in too much detail, I'd start crying. But teenage me, you'll hopefully be happy to find out that we still have one big thing in common. Writing is much easier for us than talking.
The first thing I want you to know, is you are beautiful. Sure, you make some questionable hair/makeup/wardrobe choices, but that's okay! Keep experimenting, heck! Experiment more. There's only so long you'll be able to get away with wearing overalls over your pants...
But, I digress.
You don't need to be as thin as the people around you. It feels like it's important, but it's not. People might still be teasing you about "baby fat" but you know what? That's mean. And wrong. and those people are just being cruel for no reason. You are enough, and you don't need to pretend to be something you're not.
So stop editing your arms, hips and waste line in all of your myspace photos. It might feel like it, but I promise, you don't need it.
Here's five more things I want you to know,
1. Keep writing and drawing, and don't be afraid to practice, ask your friends for advice and be willing to learn from your mistakes instead of using the tierd old."that's just my art style" excuse" hands should not look like potatoes.
2. Show your appreciation for all the awesome people in your life and lose the attitude at family parties. You're family is actually really cool, and loves you a lot.
3. Everyone's Mom has figured out what "M.O.S" means on aim. You're not being sneaky.
4. I know you've been listening to a lot of that Simple Plan song about being perfect a lot lately, and feeling like you relate. But you know what, YOU DON'T NEED TO BE PERFECT! You just need to be you...and maybe stop listening to such depressing music.
5. Ten years from now you're going to like both broccoli and spicy food... Not really advice, I just wanted to blow your mind with that one.
Well, younger self, that's all I had to say... You're pretty cool. And I wish I could time-travel, and risk creating a paradox just to give you a hug.
xoxo You in ten years.
