You know what drives me crazy? That Thanksgiving, a time where we should be gathered around with our loved ones, is slowly year by year turning into a "Day before black friday" celebration.
My mom, sister and I used to go out at 5am every year, laughing at the soccer moms wearing camo and war paint, who'd shout loudly into walkie talkies fighting and scheming on how to get there hands on the newest tickle me elmo. (I'm being dead serious)
But, year by year, the stores are opening earlier and earlier. Now, instead of getting up early, it's more like staying up all night (or all night for that matter) Some stores are even starting there sales at 9am ON THANKSGIVING. Enough is enough, and I for one, will not be shopping this year.
Lets face it, Even since the Betsey Johnson outlet closed, it hasn't really been worth going out anyways.
So, what to do instead? Here's a list for those who are also in black friday rehabilitation like me.
- Bake your first gingerbread house of the year
- Make ugly christmas sweaters!
- Set up your christmas tree & decorate for the holidays
- Get started on making cookies and cards for all your friends!
- Marathon your favorite holiday classics on t.v
- Spend all day sleeping off your turkey coma.
- Check to see if any of your local parks have set up ice skating rinks yet. (if so, bust out those skates!)
- Enjoy a glass of mulled wine (or peppermint hot cocoa) while listening to your favorite christmas tunes.
- D.I.Y some ornaments for your tree.
- And most importantly. . Make some leftover thanksgiving sandwiches. Yum!
